Vanilla Pound Cake

I was excited to try the Vanilla Pound Cake after it received such good reviews. It seemed easy enough, however I was not prepared for the crazy mess. I am finding butter splatter all over the kitchen.

I was really hoping to follow the recipe and fight my tendency to substitute, but the only flour I had was whole wheat. Other than that I did pretty good.

The instructions indicated they were really for a bunt pan, and since I don't own one I had to use a little creativity. I was impressed how well a spring form pan with a ramekin in the centre worked.
Here are the reviews:
  • Husband - Yummy, a bit bland (however was concerned he wouldn't get a second piece).
  • Me - With the name, colour (whole wheat), and smell I thought it would be dense. I was really delighted with the light taste and texture.
  • My Coworkers - I was eager to hear the reviews since I didn't really know what Pound Cake Tasted like. But everyone gave it a thumbs up. Apparently there are some real pound cake fans out there. Andrew thinks they lie to me, but no one took a polite bit and "saved the rest for later".

I think I will surprise Andrew with whip cream and blueberries for his breakfast piece.
